You can submit your site in google. But google generally takes time for listing new sites. Better to submit your site in directories. Directory submission helps in getting more backlinks. Because of this search engines automatically find & list your site. Also try to get links from already listed sites.

It would be better to get links pointed to your site from other sites that are already listed in google and have a good PR. It would be more beneficial to you instead of just submitting your site to google directly!

The quickest (free) way to get your site spidered is making a directory submission. Search engines follow links and they spider the most popular directories everyday, so that will speed up the process.
