PR on interior pages

I was just wondering how to get my interior pages to have a page rank and rank higher in the engines. Especially google.
I notice some sites have pretty high page ranks on interior pages and was wondering - Is this what happens over time? Or do they do something to make their pages rank higher?
My homepage has a PR of 2 right now...expected to climb to 3 or 4 in October. But all of my interior pages have a rank of 0....

How often does Google, and all of the SE spiders, crawl and index a message board such as this?

So would it be a good idea to exchange links with quality sites and have some of them point to interior pages?

I'm not too worried about PR. I just figured that if Google pays attention to certain pages and rewards them with a PR, maybe they would get listed higher in the rankings for certain keywords. What I don't understand is why Google reindexes my homepage every 9-12 days, but the interior pages don't get updated for months.
I have some pages that I have made changes to and optimized better that haven't been reindexed since April, May and June...
What the heck is going on with that? I thought the spiders crawl the links to the interior pages and reindex them if they are different than before.
MSN does it all the time for me.

Many internal pages get more pr bacuse other people link to them in that page. Many times people link back to you beacuse of a article you wrote. So they give you a backlink, but not on you home page, but on a page.

I was also told by more than one person, that if you have links that point to some interior pages, it will help raise the ranking and PR of that page.
I have had a LinkMetro listing for a few months, and I have some of the links point to some of the interior pages...
I guess we'll see if I get the PR up when the next PR update is.

If you establish a nice navigation system and have the main pages listed on each page, the PR will increase. Thats what I did with my site and the PR has gone to my other pages.

I have text links on my home page to all of my interior pages, so hopefully, that helps googlebot find and index the entire site. I like to think my site is easy to navigate.

Thanks Vista, I'm learning as I go...I've only been doing this for about 8 months...I try absorb everything I can on SEO...you should've seen my home page a few months back...it wouldn't have come up for any keywords. It was very poorly optimized.

I did it on my own, just by reading forums and books on SEO and things like that...I don't really make enough to pay for any professional services yet...

If you have a page that got many backlinks its going to give that page a good pr and its also going to raise the pr of your homepage.

As far as I understand your homepage which people usually link to has the highest PR, then every page deeper than that has one less PR.
So say your homepage has a PR of 4 and you have a link to a page within your site. Then that page should have a PR of 3

Also make sure you have the following meta tags on each page:
<meta name="robots" content="index,follow">
<meta name="revisit-after" content="5 days"> (or however many days you want)
