It seems that it's more difficult to get google to see back links to your site. Is this because of the "sandbox" or are there specific optimisations needed for google to pick up links?

what is the thing called sand box, can any one pls tell me so that i can check the status of my site also

on the link popularity checker, for most websites there are significantly more links found on the other engines e.g. www.micex.com

The Google sandbox is google's way of making new sites have to wait in order to get listed in the SERPs. Google denies the existance of the sandbox.

I have all my pages indexed with Google, but I don't show up in the SERPs at all for some keywords.

Does anyone have an idea on how long it takes to get out of the sandbox? 6mos, 12 mos, etc....

Google only shows backlinks for the specific page you requested (usually the homepage), not the whole site like other search engines do.Google purposely does not list all links pointing to a particular page. This is an effort to keep webmasters from manipulating their system.

I have read that Google withholds some of the links it displays, so you can't really nail down how many you have. Its Google's way of keeping their algorithm a secret, along with all the other factors they use to rank sites.

i believe from what I have heard is that google only shows up to 10% of the links that it knows about!

try typing
::www.yourwebsite.com
on google search box
you will see all the links there....

That's good, it does show a lot more links. It shows all of my forum postings in the link cache.
