That's a tough question to answer. FYI, pagerank has nothing to do with ranking. SERP is based on the quality of backlinks and other onpage factors.

I will go for a PR3 site with specific content page PR2. It only shows that visitors finds other pages informative. They don't just stack on the index page. If they saw something on the inner page that interests them, they could not easily leave your page.
In most cases, site having a good PR inner page works well in terms of keywords targeting.

I have had many PR 0 pages rank # 1 in there niche's. I have also seen way too many sites with lower PR outrank higher PR sites.
You need to remember that toolbar PR does not represent your current information. This is dated information.

It's definitely on the content that closely match what Google algorithm was set, and this result is not directly affected of the sites PR.
