301 Redirect AND content change together

Post by Cornak »

Good day,

How would Google react if a 301 Redirect is implemented to effect a domain name change (including server change) AND at the same time the content of each page of the site is (quite considerably) changed too?

I am a bit worried about this compound change, as Google might get too upset. Would it be advisable to perform one operation at a time and see what happens in between?

Thanks

I would recommend applying these changes gradually.

First, 301 to the new server, but keep your same content

Wait till google indexes your new domain

Slowly rewrite your content, trying to keep the keywords for each page the same.

This process should take a month or two minimum for the best results.

I would also recommend the same thing...
but! There are cases when 2 large websites merge and there has been no problem with keeping the positions in the serp even when the 2 websites that merge has different content.

*) If you're changing domain names and using a 301 redirect, you'll need to leave the old domain name and files in place for a few weeks to give the major search engines time to catch on to the changes and don't forget to notify your link partners of the domain name change as soon as possible and once you get indexed don’t forget to deactivate your old domain name.

*)Some search engines don't cache web site information by domain name, but by IP address. When you change your server or service, no doubt your IP will change and some search engine robots may "lose" you - for months.
For this reason, if you can afford it, it's wise to leave your old web site files up for a month on your old server space after you have made the move to the new server.
According to Google it will take 6-8 weeks to see the changes reflected on your pages.

Caution ! your site may get banned or PR may get dropped due to improper implementation of redirect.
