links gone to zero? Was I penalized?

i just checked my links on the front page. i did have over 1200 on one of my sites and now it's like 385. what gives??? yahoo and google both say 0. and before they both had links, i don't understand.

I just had that problem last week...Yahoo Cut my link total in half, not even sure what Google did....but it seems to be back to normal now...

How does Google count links at all? I have inbound links but Google does not see them. Why?

Google doesn't show but a small portion of the BL that has indexed. It doesn't mean that it doesn't take them into consideration. I'd use Yahoo to get a better picture of your BL situation

Yahoo and MSN exactly show many backlinks, but Google!

Obviously if they are new, it takes them a while to register. Everything is taking longer now. With all the billions of sites out there, you just gotta play a waiting game. Sometimes a backlink might not get noticed until that site gives an updated sitemap to google. Otherwise they just sit around till googles spiders get to that site, which could take a while.. just be patient in all things concerning Google.

Wow! Google shows 8 inbound links at last. I get them almost two month ago!

Don't panic, it doesn't mean that Google started considering them now, it is just that it makes BL updates from time to time and then shows all the new links that you got from the last update at once.

I have got much more links for two months. Why did Google count only 8 of them?

It's not that it just considers 8, but that just shows 8. It's better to check it out in Yahoo (linkdomain:yourdomain -domain:yourdomain) and then assume that Google has the same number of links as Yahoo shows.

Yahoo-277 links. I think Googe counts only 1 link from unique domain and only that has some age.

It happened to me also my links got back to half of what they were previously..........yes yahoo counts one link from one website

No, Yahoo don't. and MSN. They show many links from single domain.
