I have manged to get a #1 listing with a few keywords which are fairly popular & i have remained there for a while now, with zero backlinks & gained a pr of 3...

But backlinks are important, keep content fresh, good title tags & make sure you have your keywords in the body...

Google likes the same technics as before

Yes, the modern search engines, especially Google still keep in value the old technics like links, links, links..., and of caurse relevant content.

Have a great day,
Peter

how did u get a pr 3. I thought pr was solely a representation of backlinks a site recieves. Perhaps you have links your not aware of.

Despite your sucess and a few others most seo is still about links, links, links.

The thing is that not all links will help you. Google is getting cleverer at the time of filtering non-relevant links. So I'd say that the key is unique and interesting content, because that will do some ethical link baiting and get relevant backlinks

We've been talking in the forums that backlinks have to be relevant to the website to increase ranking. As far as I see it, many forum members don't have their sites relevant to the forum by itself. In that case, should the forum sites be concidered as quality backlinks? If the answer is YES, than why we are talking about relevancy?
For example: my site is a shopping site, and this forum is dedicated mostly for the general discussions. This forum has nothing to do with the shopping, so should the backlink from this forum be considered as quality link? Kind of confusy.

Have a great day,
Peter

Definitely YES. Relevancy matters. Agreed that it is a general SEO forum, but due to it's high popularity you may get some good links, but if you participate in the exclusive shopping forums, you will have much weightage.

Yes, you're right. The only problem is I don't know any exclusive shopping forums for the online sellers, most of them are for the online customers, and when the selling site makes its posting that will be considered as a spam for that shopping forum, and the posting will be deleted. That's what I know from my experience, correct me if I'm wrong.

Does anyone know the shopping forums for the online sellers? Your help is very appreciated.

Have a great day,
Peter

Relevant links to your site, good unique content and regular site updates. Work hard on all 3 points and you will get there but it’s an ongoing battle.
