Does it follow that if you are ranking well in Bing and Yahoo that your ranking within Google will also improve, thought at a much slower rate?

Not necessary, I have websites that rank pretty well on yahoo and bing for more than a year, but they have never been crawled by google

I do get crawled by google, currently around 5000 times a month, most of my pages are ranking on page two in google UK. As I said does it follow, given this info that I will eventually attain page one status. Or do the 3 big SE operate different system. As you can probably guess I am new to this SE malarky, so be kind and put a bit of gel on it....

If your ranking well in yahoo and bing, it does not necessarily means that you'll be able to rank well in Google. They have different algo and diff kind of labeling which website is good enough to rank on a certain keywords.

Like for instance, Yahoo is very particular with how many backlinks you've got on the web. And Google give weight with strong backlinks (example, forum links) as well as links in related website. while in Bing, they are particular with the domain age. meta tags and content of your website. Those are just few factors on how they were able to rank certain page or site.

Roma,

Google, Yahoo and Bing have different algorithms and aspects in ranking sites. In most cases, some sites that rank well in Google doesn't perform well in Yahoo & Bing, and vice versa. If you are really new in SEO, read first the SE's guidelines in ranking, I suggest the Google SEO Starter guideline for Google so you can get the right ideas in ranking..

It still depends on what terms did contribute to your ranking on Yahoo and Bing.

No it will not improve because every search engines have different way of optimizing site...So if any keyword which you are targeting is ranking top in Yahoo but You may not find any ranking in Google...

So far, only few big sites are ranking well on these big search engines. Includes Adobe, Wikipedia, etc..

I agreed with ishie. Different search engines have their different algorithm to rank websites.
