I want to talk about one of the leading websites. Let us call is abc.com. abc.com is linked to only around 20 sites. Naturally, a backlink checker will show 800 links but a majority of these backlinks are repeats. Is this possible in case of a top level domain? What is so extraordinary about abc.com? Does the age of the domain impact rankings? Does it influence rankings? Furthermore, is it possible to link to any website without focusing on relevance? Can someone enlighten me on this? Any inputs/suggestions in this regard would be really appreciated. Thanks a ton in advance.

Question is not clear much. If any website has backlinks from different pages of a single domain, it will show as repeater irrespective of the age of domain.

Google didn't disclose any further factors rather than those guidelines they have that sites should have much quality contents and backlinks along with other reputation thing like originality, age and reputation, to get rankings.. Google usually consider the layman's point of view which is being natural of contents and backlinks without care of any methods or manipulation like some SEO do.
