For link exchange, its better that you exchange links with sites that allow link exchange, i.e. sites that have a resources page or links page in them and the sites should be similar to the content of your site. There's no point in exchanging links with a site that is travel agency when your site deals with website development.

Use the Following Off Page SEO techniques to get crucial back links to your content from high page ranking sites.

With new algo of Google I don't think directory submission works great for SEO whether paid or not paid. It's always better to get contextual links for your site. Anyway your tips seem really great!

A. Contact site owners; give them relevant articles in exchange for links. When contacting the site owners, do not ask, “Hey do you want an article for your site but I’ve my link in it?” He will just say no. Say it like, “Hey, I have some really good articles that might interest you and your readers. I’ve also included my URL but feel free to remove it if you don’t like the article.” 90% of time the link is left in the article if it’s good.

B. Add articles to article directories with relevant links back to site. Track these articles and offer more articles free in exchange for links when other websites pick them up. You should also cross-link all your articles to pass link juice. Make sure it doesn’t look as spammy and gives more credibility.

C. Contact site owners for link exchange – try think outside the box here. For instance, type in your main keyword in Google, go to the third or forth page, sites on these pages usually have a good PR and are willing to exchange links compared to page 1 sites. Check if the link page is recently cached and has less than 50 links. Check and try going for “dofollow” sites.

D. Contact site owners and ask them if they are willing to cover a keyword on their existing article to point back to your site in exchange for articles with your links.

E. Copy all of your competitors’ backlinks (try using SEO Elite for this, it shows a lot of different IP addresses).

F. Use Isnare article distribution. Be carefully using this — make sure you have quality backlinks first and only use once a week, or twice at the most.
