I am new to SEO and i am assigned the task to make a website popular, so please tell me which paid directory is most effective in this sense to increase traffic. thanks in advance

Undoubtedly Yahoo is the best paid directory till today, its expensive but worthwhile if you have a potentially profitable site as it has over 100,000 .edu and .gov backlinks, you will also get some traffic from your website listing.

You can do it without paying for inclusion in Paid Web Directories. But if you are still required to do so, I recommend searching for the top directories like DMOZ, Yahoo Directory and others.

Actually, you can use free directories as well. Since free directories can help you to generate traffic to your site. However, I don't think directory submission is enough. It would be better if you will be using other SEO techniques such as bookmarking or forum posting.

I agree Yahoo. But you should submit to free directories as well. Some people say that it is not worth it to submit to paid directories any more. Even though DMOZ is a free directory it is hard to get in.
