what kind of backlink is suitable? do you think that a backlink of a website that is the same business is better than others? for example, if one website is on search engine optimization then should we do the exchange link with other search engine optimization too?

Of caurse, you don't have to put your competetives links on your site, but you have to choose the sites with relevant content as much as possible. As far as I know they help much better than not relevant sites.

And use a common sense. If you can exchange link with the higher PR site, then do it and don't focus to much on exact relevancy.

Have a great day,
Peter

Much better if your competitor is your link partner because its add another points for Google that is called a quality link.

agree to that.. Even if its not really same as your site.. The important thing is relevant or under to the same category.. like for example if its a shopping site for clothes, its okay to link back to shopping sites of shoes..

You should submit link or exchange link to your related site and relevancy is the important factor for Yahoo and MSN.

Indeed.. Because SE's looks and ranked a particular site that has a lot of backlinks which is relevant and or related to the theme..
