There are lots of ways to get links. You can post in blogs related to your niche. You can purchase high PR backlinks. But probably the easiest and smartest thing you can do is to put up a link directory and create categories for your niche, and just let people request links. If you don't like one them, you can remove it. Having a mechanism to get links for you is ground zero. Few sites do this well enough for you online, and allow you to track your links after you get them. You need to be able to stay in contact with your link partners and retain their contact information in an organized manner.

Getting links is not that difficult but to maintain that links is a bit tuft as you can make links through blog posts , social bookmarks, social networks but those links can also be removed so you have to take care of that too.

I agree with you, you not only need to build and get links but also you need to expect the relevancy, reputation and the outbound links of the website you used to build link juice for your own site.

I don't think link directory submission is the best method, but it is surely a decent technique to get links. My issue with directories is that most of them have low PR. Others look spammy.

I have found a lot of directories that ask for a anual fee (20-30 USD) and with a low PR!

There are still high PR backlinks that you can get for free, so buying backlinks are just waste of money.

Well, i agree, there are so many ways to get backlinks. Link building campaign is one of those techniques you can use in generating backlinks.
