There has never been a definitive answer to that question. Unfortunately, too many variables come into play such as user settings, auto-update, how often, on-access, realtime, system resources.used etc. Paid or not, none are 100% no matter how they are configured. Use safe surfing and common sense. I like Avast, malwarebytes and ccleaner as an easy user friendly suite of tools.

I think that Bit Defender is the best free antivirus solution, ESET Nod 32 is the fastest antivirus but not the most accurate, and Kaspersky is the most powerful...

Well, i like Avast and Eset, both of them have been good performance, i don use nortor nor mcafee anymore, because with both of them my pc got infected, and with bitdefender in the past it was a system consumer, at well as panda antivirus and mcafee, avast and eset had a very little system consumption of resources.
