Need .htaccess file help

I have created a file for 301 redirects in notepad. I am having problems moving the file over to Frontpage or ExpressionWeb and renaming the file .htaccess. Apparently the programs don't like the "." at the beginning of the filename. My site is hosted on Register.com and it is on an Apache server. I need to somehow upload the file to the server in the correct name. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Normally, you should be able to save .htaccess file with "." If you have Macromedia Dreamweaver, just create your file over there and try to it save as .htaccess. This should work.

Unfortunately I am using Frontpage and ExpressionWeb and neither of them will allow me to save the file with a "." at the front. I am open for any other suggestions.
