New Google NOFOLLOW HTML Tag

Google has launched a new NOFOLLOW tag to be used primarly for Blogs, Forums and Guest Book type sites that get a lot of link spam. This is to prevent spammers from getting credit on their links. The site owners need to implement this on their programs so that the tag gets inserted automatically.

The tag is in this format: rel="nofollow"

So for example, if your HTML link tag is as follows:
<a href="http://www.yahoo.com/">Yahoo</a>

Then you would do this:
<a href="http://www.yahoo.com/" rel="nofollow">Yahoo</a>

Tag will be used only in blog comment. Can it be used any where on the page. which in my opinion is yes

Megri the tag can be placed anywhere on the page and your site doesn't have to be a blog.

In Robots.txt also many of them using nofollow tag check rel=nofollow and Javascript also

I have reasons to believe that google follows “nofollow” tag. In my isslog, I find google following nofollow links

Google does not follow a link which includes the nofollow attribute. From the horse's mouth at

How does Google handle nofollowed links?

We don't follow them. This means that Google does not transfer PageRank or anchor text across these links. Essentially, using nofollow causes us to drop the target links from our overall graph of the web. However, the target pages may still appear in our index if other sites link to them without using nofollow, or if the URLs are submitted to Google in a Sitemap.

No follow tag is still an issue today especially to Google who does not want a no follow tag.

That's very interesting. I was wondering how do you know Google doesn't want "nofollow" tag. I didn't hear about it, was any information released online so I can read it? Anyone else can clarify it?

this is interesting because people say that google sometimes even follows a nofollow link, but they just dont use it for page rank is all.
