I would imagine that's why there is so much SPAM on those social networking and bookmark sites. Everyone thinks it's the way to the top!

If you build a lot of links pointing to a new website (I guess we are speaking about new website if we speak abou immediate indexing) you will get into sandbox for sure. It is more effective to build links slowly and regularly.
