I'm wondering where you usually gain your backlinks? I think you need to focus in getting quality backlinks. By your target keyword. Keyword that had been analyze of an SEO specialist. Which you think you can compete and rank in Google. You know why? If you have many competitors, its really hard to compete with them. Unless you can give you best shot but it takes time for you to see your work.

I specialise in relevant link building and if you only focus on relevant links its easy to grab a pagerank 2 without much effort.

Theres no point building standard links from any old site, its always best to focus on quality links as they always pay off.

It seems to take forever, but if you keep plugging away consistently you'll see that rank increase but it is definitely tough. And you have to keep it up or you'll be passed by.
