This subject about the value of Google's PR is probably the most requested all over this forum. If you read postings for the latest few month you will notice, that most of the members consider PR not so important as it use to be. That is also my opinion.

There are many sites with lower PR are having better SERP positions than the sites with higher PR. Of course, it's good to have bigger PR, but as far as I know there is no 100% dependency between PR and SERP. I think SERP is more important than PR, so we have to talk how to improve SERP.

i feel happy to get some good PR but i'm not really into it - i'm giving more importance on my SERP rankings

PR is important but not that much. Because It will tell how well established and how trust worthy is your website. I would think about Traffic than PR though.
