Hi,

First point is I don't think directories are quite useful as far as traffic concern. I have seen visits in rare from directories.

Second point is Google doesn't give much more weight directories as earlier. So it's not a good idea to spend time on submitting your site to hundreds of directories.

My take is slightly different....

I would says this... Google prides themselves on Relevancy...

In order for Google to decide if a site is relevant they look at a profile completeness... This is especially true in Google Maps.... The site that has a more complete profile usually ranks much higher than a site that does not...

So keeping this thought in mind, make sure your site is well rounded...

Submit to directories, as well as socially bookmark, write blogs, blog comment posts, user prfile links, forums post signatures, etc....

This will also look a lot more natural... If your site is competing for VERY non competitive keywords, than maybe some directory listings will help... If you are trying to rank for something more competitive than directory listings will help slightly, but don't put your eggs in this basket...

I also agree, that if you think you will see traffic from those links, than think again... They are there for search engines to find as well...

Think PROFILE COMPLETENESS...

targeted traffic

Posting your site to directories is good but cirtainly not enough to achive good traffic, especially when you need targeted traffic. Try to find relevant sites to exchange link with, they will give you more targeted traffic than directories. IMO

I get minimal traffic from directory submission. Social bookmarking and networking are much better methods to boost traffic.

Getting more traffic from directory submission is totally usefulness thing. if you want to get more traffic then you have to promote your blog and bookmark this blog with high pr sites and also post press release about your product or business with unique content from, this method you can increase traffic on your site not for directory.

Hi,

According to me directory submission is generally use for backlinks, not for traffics.

If you are doing submission with hope of traffics then you would have less than 5% results from directories.

Thanks :)

This post reflects my thoughts as well. Directory submissions should be a part of any comprehensive SEO campaign.

For payed directory.. can say will get some link juice.. but if its free.. very rare chance of getting link juice... for me feel it utter waste of time... almost free directory are not approving the submission.. if approve also the added link goes to the very deep page.. and from it getting link juice is very very less chance

Getting listed in web directories, article directories, posting in forums, and blogs are some of the acceptable methods of acquiring quality backlinks. Generally, search engines index forums frequently, so posting in forums is a good way to gain quality backlinks with the anchor text of your choice. While submitting articles to directories can be a time consuming process, it does not require much effort and time to post in forums; however, one has to do his homework and take some precautions in order to be successful using forums for gaining backlinks.

Today most people find info on search engine.
