Identical sites? Duplicate Content Problem

Post by stampman »

We have two sites.

1) http://www.stampsdirect.co.uk

2) http://www.rubber-stamps.co.uk

Site 1 is positioned on page one of Google when searching for rubber stamps within the UK.

Site 2 doesn't appear.

Both sites have similar content.

We only want one site (No. 2), but obv don't want to lose our high ranking.

Why isn't site 2 being ranked as high as site 1.

Is it because they have similar content?

Yes. Google hate duplicate content and will penalized your site. You must change your content on your second site so it become unique.

If on 2 sites there is same content then google might not allow one. so it is better to remove the duplication as it will affect the ranking of your site too.

Why don't you focus on the one that is already ranking? And break that duplicate content, Google is so hesitant to index sites that has identical content around..

Yes Google punishes sites having duplicate content. May be site ranking on no.1 is created before site no.2 so it is already ranking. But now as you have created other site that is duplicate of first one, Google has banned it. There may be chance that it put that site in sand box if it is not showing anywhere in SERP. So it would be better for you to concentrate on 1 site and redirect other to it. What's the need of another same site if one is already ranking.

one of the site must stop, content duplication might get both penalized and banned from search engines :D

This one is most likely the case. This one usually happens when a site publishing duplicate content does not link back to the source of the original.

Duplicated sites will do harm to the SERP.

just because Google only consider one site to rank, if you have two sites with same content.
