Great, I agree with you with these useful information regarding forum posting. I am also believe that forum posting and blog commenting methods are so powerful methods to increase serp rather than other link building methods.

You need to be careful. Putting links to your site on cats isn't very relevant on a site having to do with widgets. It looks spammy, and Google continues to work on weeding out spammy. It can end up working against your SEO.

The other thing is making sure they don't use <nofollow> on the links. Google doesn't much care about <nofollow> links that are not being "talked" about, such as those on sharing services such as Twitter. Google does like things being shared.

I disagree, obtaining backlinks from sources that the category isn't relevant won't hurt your website. You shouldn't expect any targeted traffic from those sources, but the backlinks are very much welcomed.

Forgive my poor explanation in the above post. At his time, they will give you a credit for the backlink, though it won't be as relevant.

Google continues to improve their algorithm. Their goal is to provide the best search results possible. To do that, they will change their algorithm to ignore links that are not relevant from their rankings. They are Google, and can and will do whatever they want!

Look at social networking, especially Twitter. Twitter uses "<nofollow>". Simply posting a link to your Twitter to your site, or one person tweeting about your site is worthless. In social networking, and in cases of blogs/forums that use <nofollow>, Google will still give you relevant credit if people are sharing your stuff, or there is conversation relevant to the subject, and the backlink is relative to the conversation.

Google already goes after certain subjects.. Pharmacy backlinks are a big one. A lot of the links are ignored. They employ a lot of people to look at webpages, rate them for relevance, identify spam, and rate the page quality.

So, if you are spending a lot of time writing about widgets on site that have to do with cats, you are wasting time that could be spent developing good content, and engaging in relevant conversations on sites and social networks that talk about cats. That is hurting your SEO and marketing. One morning you will wake up and ask yourself "where did all those backlinks go?"

I also want to say, I in no way discourage the use of links in signatures. Google is still counting them, and you only have to set them once. They will most likely disappear as backlinks one day, though. Be prepared.

Edited to add: trafficwiz52... your website in your signature is not loading.

Most of forum links are less valuable. Google probably grade posters as reputable contributors and what they share is helpful and relevant for the readers.

I think forum posting is one of the good methods which can really generate some handy links for your site.
One should give active contribution towards the forum by posting helpful posts, and by following the forum's policy.
