PageRank is relative
PageRank is relative. An increase in the number of pages in the Google index could decrese the PageRank of a webpage, without any change from our side. PageRank is a good information but do not be obsessed about it. All one has to be focussed is the number of users, repeate users, customers and loyal customers i.e., ROI.

Page Rank is relative the the number of links you have pointed to your site, not how many pages you have in an index. The more pages you have in the index will not decrease your PR. Links are what influence PR. Please understand things like that before posting!

I think pagerank is just added on top of the other pages. I dont think it lowers your pages average if you get linked from a bunch of pagerank 0 sites. This would make google.com have a crap pagerank if that were true, cuz a LOT of low PR websites link there.

The number of pages that YOUR SITE has in the index won't affect PR, but what I think this guy meant, and is true, is that number of pages that GOOGLE has in its index will affect your PR. For example, if you have a PR4 with 200 BL to your site, and with 4 billion pages in the G index, then, if G index goes to 8 billion, you'll need to get 400 BL to keep that PR4. That's what I've heard...

Which I found staring

That My web site Forum gets (4) in the page rank
But the index page gets (2)
How could be that

A page transfers 85% of its own PageRank through the outbound links, so the more links to other sites, the less PR you transfer to your internal links. Apart of that it's not negative, as linking to authority sites is positivebermuda wrote:What actually can have negative effect on a website PR is the number of outbound links you establish to other sites.
Too many links to other sites is not really recommended.

Is that true? The more links you have to other sites can hurt you? That doesn't make sense because Google says in their guidelines that a website should be created for the user, not the search engines...
Links to other pages are supposedly a resource for your sites visitors...if we get penalized for outbound links...why should we bother.

Hi overdriveelectronics,
The 'index' I refered in my first post is the Google Index. I think, now you understand the context of my post. I have corrected my previous post to avoid further confusion.
Thanks to Adan for explaining it on my behalf with a nice example.

Question:
The PR that we can see is not the one Google is using for its algo, right?
Because if that would be so, you would not go up and down with certain keywords all the time but only 4 times a year.
Then, there are people who were lucky at the last PR Update and still did not get much more traffic/better rankings.
The only explanation is that google uses their internal PR to calculate your ranking position for certain keywords.
In that case all the PR discussion really doesn't make sense anymore since Linkpopularity is the key to achieve better rankings in the various search engines and not PR. And Linkpopularity can be changed directly without having to wait for search engine updates. What do the experts here say about that?
Cheers, Silver
