Meta tags obsolete?
Hi there--
I heard yesterday from someone who may or may not know what she was talking about, that meta tags on website are a BAD idea because spiders no longer look at them. Sure, there have always been people who have tried to cheat the system by placing inaccurate keywords, etc. in their tags, that has been around for years. Have spiders got smarter on these people? Surely meta tags can't be obsolete!

I dont get how it works. don't we have to have a meta tag so search engines can add us to the search list?
How are they going to know our keywords and the descrption of the site if there is no meta tag I am new to meta tags and those stuff. so this might be a stupid question.
my friends tells me to put your meta tag on each page if you dont your site will not be on the search list of any search engines unless you pay them to do it.

what do you mean by puttin the keywords in the body of the page? in the content?
junoman wrote:More important is your site Title tag and content, so put your keywords in your title tag, but I would recommend not to have title tag more than 10 words, because tehy might not be read if it is too long and then put your keywords in your actual body of the page.

tags and content
you have to have meta tags and search env\gins still use them.Putting them in your title is an ok idea however your meta tag keywords must be inlcluded in your text.keywords must be in text and rellivent to your site. Also you must have alot of content. The more content the more your site will be picked up.Also dont use the best keywords or you will have too mush compition and your site wont be in the top 35 even.Submitting is a good way to get it out there and for a free submit go to my site at http://christiansandmusic.com
But meta tags are verry importand as are keywords and lots and lots of content.

Re: Meta tags obsolete?
Meta tags are ever green and not be obsolete cuz you need them in every web site's page creation. You need title, description and keywords of every page of your website that search engine knows that whats your website is about & in which things you are dealing with.

Hi,
I thought most of these posters were professionals!
Here's how it is with Google:
>Google is not using the meta keywords as significantly as other search engines, due to spam issues, it now gives them very little significance and the others will be sure to follow... (but every little counts).
>Google does use the meta description, as one poster rightly mentioned, this is what is actually shown in a large number of Google search results.
The Google Algorithm views both of the above as less significant than onpage content and page titles, but you should still use them, of course.
Regards,
Paul.
