Lycos have launched a directory,

http://directory.lycos.co.uk

It's $49 a year to get listed, It doesn't have any PageRank at the moment but I would expect it has quite a few juicy links, it is in association with Linkcentre.com.

There are so many directories available for free submission then why pay $49 for just one year.

$49 for one directory and just for 1 year is very expensive. I definitely will not go for it.
