Does Google care about On-Page SEO?

Does Google care about On-Page SEO?

Just thought I'd share some information.

I recently overhauled my site with a new design, 75% new content, brand new outbound links and 100% CSS. In addition, my keyword density rose from around 2% to 3.5%.

Yahoo indexed my site and rose me to #1 as a result (probably because of the keyword density I imagine), but Google has since indexed my site and my position has not changed at all. Now, I may be incorrect in assuming that serps are updated with each "re-index," and maybe Google will adjust my site's position up or down eventually, but if this isn't the case, and my assumption is correct, Google has basically ignored my new on-page developments altogether.

I often read posts in several forums titled: "New Site Design, Position Dropped," and fully expected a change one way or another from Google, but maybe on-page SEO plays such a small factor in Google that it's virtually obsolete for competitive keywords, and only plays a factor for "not-so-competitive" keywords.

any thoughts?

Hi Jason,
Google still love on-page optimization, but it takes time to show the results,
Proper use of keywords at different places and other onpage tactics will definitely help you.

Jason, I will only suggest that please don't try any black hat otherwise improving site navigation, links would help.

I think Google still likes on page optimization. But I agree that it probably takes Googlebot a few crawls to index your changes and make those changes improve your search listings.

I agree. On my own opinion search engine must give a 70% criteria on on-page optimization rather than backlinks because some owner of the sites buy links just to rank well in search engine.
