Even though social media seems to be strong, it shouldn't be compared with SEO. Both have their uniqueness.

Actually we have to rely on it, because the competition has increased so much today, that only SEO and link exchanges do not give satisfactory results.

Social media optimization (SMO) is a part of Search engine optimization (SEO) and thus it can not itself take place of SEO. You need to do everything in order to get good rankings.

SEO and SMO can both generate instant traffics but seo can also give backlinks. SMO is also important because your are creating a relationship to your so called community or friends and it is in real time they can interact, give you feed backs and share contents and who knows they might converted into customers. so why not try using both.

Social media optimization is boosting now a days , participating to social media sites like facebook and twitter can help you a lot to bring traffic to your site. But if we look at the future of SMO, then I don't think that it will be strong as SEO.
