Help and advice needed for fun website

Hi, to try and explain, I am new to web building and have a couple of sites 'running' at present. I am trying to get one website noticed to start with, in the short term, around the next six months, it is aimed at celebrating a friends 40th birthday (we thought this was a novel present) and then after this I was looking at concentrating on information regarding our local area.
I would be extremley grateful to anyone who would take a look and suggest any ideas on getting the site noticed for this short period of time (I appreciate after our friends birthday the onus would be back on me to 'promote' the site) but just wanted the site noticed to celebrate his birthday in the first instance.
Would anyone reading this be willing to place a link to the site just for the short term ??
I could submit to directories, but wonder whether these would publish within the timescale before his birthday, again I appreciate I will have to submit when I change the content to information on our local area.
Really what I am asking for is any help whatsoever
If anyone does take a look the site will be getting more content as time passes and many thanks in advance
