Best thing to do is create interesting and helpful information you can share to your audience, and of course build your network with people who are interested on your product/services.

First, spend some time thinking about your goals so you can come up with an effective strategy. Other things you need to consider are how your audience communicates, where they reside online, what their habits on, and so on. This will not only help you determine what social networks you need to be on but also guide you in content creation. In general, content that is visual, informative, offers a benefit, and is easily shared tends to perform well. Focus on engaging your audience rather than solely promoting your site. No one wants to listen to an endless sales message. For Facebook, that might mean asking your audience questions. On Twitter, that might mean RTs and @ replies. If you have the money and time, invest in SEO to boost your social media efforts.
