Link exchanges have been made very inefficient and will not really do anything to increase your PR in google or any major search engines anymore. The reason being is that Search engines have caught on the the old link exchange meaning if you run site A and a friend runs site B then you agree to link to each other your links will cancel each other out for rank purposes. They may have a traffic effect if your sites are related.

Once your silos are built you have to get involved in your community and niches post to forums that deal with your specific topics. So instead to gain you as a user and reader I link you directly to the information you find relevant.

When you are choosing what forums to link to your site do a site rank check a.k.a PR check. the higher the PR the more juice it can send towards your site.

There are 2 types of links you need to be aware of first is a no follow link. Which means that the link will not allow crawlers to associate it with your website. Those type of links do not ad juice to your site. Usually forum links in articles get annexed as no follow. They do still have value though, readers may click them and traffic flow can come from them.

The next type of link is a do follow link those flow seo juice to your page and give you rank. In forum posts those are usually the urls found in profile and sometimes signatures. That depends on the admins of the forums.

How you can get juice from a no follow link inf forums is pretty easy. Write a relevant reply. when users read it they may thank you. That links that article and its key words to your website and gives your profile relevance in that article. Each thanks or likes gives you some juice trickling towards your page.

Now I am no SEO expert so if you can afford it there are many consulting firms that can help you achieve page rank in search engines. Just when dealing with a consulting firm stay in constant communication. Know their methods. Make sure they pride themselves on white hat methods. Anything else may hurt your page in the long run.
