The link pyramid are those backlinks that are layered, in a diagram so that they look like a pyramid shape.

At the tip of the pyramid is the site you're looking to rank, then the layer below that is high pr links normally a fairly low amount, below 1000, then you have poor quality links normally PR0 that you link to the High PR backlinks, normally there are 1000s of these.

This is effective because it gets the high PR backlinks indexed and it passes all the link juice from the rubbish no PR backlinks onto the high PR backlinks, making them even stronger.

It also means you don't have 1000s of low quality links plus a few high quality ones. It's a low amount of high quality links that get indexed, this stops Google for slapping you and they're really effective for SEO.

I've been using them recently and the SEO effect is brilliant.

The backlink pyramid is easy to implement, easy to explain and useful in many ways. The strategy allows you to send high-quality backlinks to your money site, strengthens those high-quality links, and improves the index rate of those backlinks.

A typical backlink pyramid will have three tiers:

Tier 1 will you be your highest quality links. These links should be manually created Web 2.0’s, high PR blog posts, high PR social bookmarks, etc…

The second-tier of links will be medium quality links. You can use well-spun content and auto create links. Article directories, wiki link, and various low PR backlinks are good for the second-tier.

Tier 3 needs low-quality links like auto approved blog comments, Pligg bookmarks and Wiki links.
