Try on-page and off-page. Here's a list to search on the net for you to work your mind and research abilities.
On-page optimization:
keyword analysis
meta tags
link building
off-page optimization:
article submission
directory submission
blog creation
blog posting

You'll have to find profitable/traffic generating keywords > Do some on page optimization and link building > and wait for sometime.

Make sure to not build links tooo quickly.

You can search and read a lot of SEO tutorials around, also search for good tools to help your site and plans for building it's link link keyword research tool, etc.

All I can suggest for you is... once you've decided what are the keywords you are targetting, study those sites that topped on SERP for that. They are good actual example to make plans.
