Yes, I also believe that this is the right answer. Let us put Digg as an example. Google more frequently visits this social bookmarking site that's why in just a few days, you will see your post in Digg as one of your backlinks...

Time is unpredictable like when Google will update the backlinks. They can do it anytime. Stick to your basics and hope for the best.

there are no definite given time when google update the backlinks for a certain site..but mostly major change in backlinks is noticeable after an pr update...you can check all the sites linking to your site by using google webmaster tool...it do actually shows you all the sites linking to you..compare d to the query link:yoursite

I've get many new backlinks to my sites in the last three months and still they don't appear in the Google Webmaster Tools stats...although nobody knows exactly, it seems that Google makes it once about 4 months at least

Say if have 10 weighted backlinks by checking with the link: operator, I get 40x backlinks when I check in my webmaster tools?

There are times when google dances and doesn't give precised answers on backlinks, but through time it will recover... I don't really know the exact length on how they update backlinks..

It usually takes around 2 to 4 month for backlinks update.
