SEO newbie
ey guys, I would like to ask for your advice with regards to learning SEO. I've always wanted to learn about SEO and how to use it, but the subject is just too broad. I don't have a single clue where to start. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

you are very right that it is a very broad subject. it might make sense to break it down into the following categories to help focus your learning...
general search engine overview (how they work, how ranks are derived)
keywords (how to choose the right ones for your objectives)
onsite optimization (page titles, urls, keyword density...)
external optimization (link building etc.)
tools/services

Well Said. And this stuff can take a ton of your time up. Especially the link building. It's best to do that gradually anyways.rayter wrote:SEO consists of onpage and offpage optimization. The onpage part of it involves keyword research, metatag creation, writing content, etc. Offpage optimization pertains to linkbuilding activities such as forum posting, article submission, link exchange, etc.

This is also a good idea given that can definitely be useful.

Reading is Good, but dive in
i completely agree that you can get a fundamental understanding of SEO from books and articles. But, at some point, you're going to have to jump in and start doing. I would suggest starting your own site and going through the motions to optimize it. Pick a topic and keywords, build your site and start experimenting. Half of what I've learned about SEO, I learned through experience and testing.
You can't go wrong that way.
