How Goole treats about Sub domains?

Hi,

I have a doubt about how search engines treats about sud domains? Especially How google treats sud domains? my doubts are

1)Will they treat the sub domain as a seperate domain?
2)Will the new pages, link building, content updation doing for the sub domain will have credits to the main domain?
3) what is the ultimate purpose of keeping subdomains rather thank keep it in the one of the "folders" in the main domain?

I don't know why I'm trying to answer this but here.

1) Do you know blogger or blogspot? Those blogs are like subdomains of blogspot.com so they are treated as separate domain.

2) If they are interlinked, they will.

3) If you have big sites and you want to create new site/section that is a different topic, it better to make it in subdomain. If they are related to main site, better make subfolder for it.

subdomains are in fact treated as different domains.
links to subdomains do not really count towards the main domain as far as i know.

subdomains can be nice to give individuals complete access to their own hosting / ftp access etc, just like it is a unique website.

Subdomains can be more useful than just using folders for HUGE websites with lots of information as well as sites that have many individuals working on it.

Subdomains can also be good for security.

Yes. If happens that google penalize your main domain, your subdomain won't be penalized.

No. It'll only benefit on the subdomain's SERP.

Subdomains usually used if you wish to go for other topics, or maybe you want to split your forum or blog from the main domain.
